Trying a new working process to create a quick and smooth animation in SketchUp without any 3d-party rendering engine.
SketchUp
- Apply PBR materials and HDRI environments
- Hide edges and enable Ambient Occlusion in Style
- Export 1080p 30fps animation
After Effects
- Change composition frame rate to 60fps
- Turn on Enable Frame Blending of all layers
- Export and done ✌️
This is the 20th year since I started using SketchUp. Today I played with the newly released SketchUp 2025 for 2 hours. The new PBR materials and HDRI environments are great, almost don’t need to spend time on rendering for a quicker and more realistic view of the scene. Well done fellow SketchUp. 👍
This year I tried a few Gen-AI tools for work and for fun, be it text-to-audio, text-to-image, or image-to-video, they are very productive and creative to a designer. The most interesting one is the game intro video that I made for the year-end team reflection, images and voices are generated from Gen-AI tools and I only need to edit them on After Effects. It’s really fun!
Complete an amazing course. Key takeaway – asking employees questions instead of providing solutions, asking question about process instead of details, facilitating employees instead of judging them.
Previously I spent fair amount of time designing illustration for presentation, those days are gone with Midjourney’s imagination ability. Now I can really focus more time thinking about the topic itself. Time saving. 👍
I’m impressed with Midjourney’s quality and speed. It would take me hours to make these, but with AI now, I can get them in just seconds ⚡️

Made a coaster with 🌻 pattern. My wife said it looks like plants vs zombies, haha…

Making a clay figurine with son on Sunday ☀️
It was 7 months ago that I started this data science course. I almost spent all my past weekends studying probability, simulation, decision trees, predictive analysis and other topics related to data-driven decision making. As a designer it is a challenging but worthwhile progress.
Stay curious and keep learning new things. 😎

From today till the following 6 months, I’ll be studying Practical Decision Making Using Data Science by NUS Business School Executive Education.
I’ve been keen on learning Data Science since 2 years ago. While WFH, It’s a good timing to have a systematic study on it and I can’t wait to open the door to explore the charm of Data Science! 🤟

I spent 4 hours assembling this wooden world map on my bedhead. The result is quite satisfying. 😀

Made this little vase in the creative day. It’s so interesting that the clay model becomes pottery at temperatures about 1000 F. My wife loves it very much.
