In Apr 2021, we launched the new Digibank HK in Hong Kong! In a nutshell, we redesigned the app using our best-in-class CJs, and successfully merged two old apps into this new app.
My role is the UX design lead in this project. The timeline of the project is fixed and tight. Luckily I have 5 designers working with me this time, and we worked with our biz, tech, delivery and other teams very closely to catch-up with the timeline.
Suddenly Covid 19 started to spread across the world, and then everyone had to work from home. The job became even more challenging, I still remember my busiest time from Mar to Nov 2020, as I was still working on other projects in CN and TW, so I almost had 15 meetings per day averagely. I found it not productive or sustainable to attend so many meetings a day, then I started to only attend the meetings that I can contribute (BTW, I learnt this from Julie Zhuo, thanks to her articles on Medium). I am still following this rule till today’s work, it does give me more time to think of doing right things, instead of just doing things right. To me, this is the biggest reward that I get from this project – a move from tactical thinking to strategic thinking.
In summary, I was very happy that we worked in a united way, so that we successfully launched our new app in 1 year. Comparing with the 2.5 years we did for Digibank TW revamp for the first time, 1 year is much faster. Now our clients can enjoy the smarter, faster and simpler app in HK.
This is our first and only face-to-face meeting in HK in Jan 2020. Due to Covid-19 we changed the way we work and live, and it has sped up the digital transformation in the bank too.
